LEGO Duplo Bob the Builder - Travis and Bob's Mobile Caravan Review

This is the 2nd biggest set in the Duplo Bob the Builder series, but it seems to be the most pleasing playwise, as it comes with a building with opening windows and door, table and chairs, Bob, his cat, and Travis. It also comes with a trailer to put the house on, and it can be towed by Travis. While the Scoop and Lofty set has two vehicles in it, the buildings do not build up to much of anything, so you would just end up having more loose blocks around the house (that big set has 80+ pieces). I couldn't justify spending the extra money on it either. I recommend this one as the best in the series.

My son loves these sets, but he also has the Thomas Duplos and tends to spend more time playing with those.

This thing was brand new, sealed in the original box, and although I may have depreciated the value of this antique by opening the box, I mainly purchased it for the motors and the rc unit. Because of the motors though, I was able to build something that was able to travel at 14 mph!

Lego Monorail Transport Base 6991 Review

Lego produced a number of monorail sets in the 1980s and 1990s. This set is largely a redesigned rerelease of #6990. The earlier one was part of the Futuron theme while this one was from the Unitron theme. In addition to being the only monorail set that had switches included, this one also had a nifty feature that allowed part of the train to hop onto a Moon vehicle. Combined with the Moon baseplate, structures, and a radar dish that spun as the monorail drove by, the set has fantastic playability and unique features. This was the last of Lego's monorail sets. The other sets include #6990 (1987), #6399 (a 1990 airport shuttle version) and two extensions sets #6921 and #6347.

The monorail trains were four studs wide and moved on wheels across a smooth, four-stud wide track that had a cogged rail in the middle (for guidance and propulsion). As a toy these were great fun, but they offered limited control over the trains (e.g., forward, backward, stop) and there was not much room inside the trains for mini-figures. You could expand the set with additional track and nifty translating switches. The trains continue to have strong appeal as elevated, futuristic trains.

Lego's monorails were expensive back when they came out, and while people enjoyed them, Lego decided to shut down production. The word is that the original molds are no more. Due to their rarity, the monorail sets command a high price on the used market and are thus of more interest to collectors. You can check prices at Bricklink.com, the main (and most fluid) secondary market for Lego. Your best bet for a modestly priced set is to find a used one on Craigslist. Be forewarned, however, that there are no motor replacements and the switches can get gummed-up with age and use.

If that doesn't do the trick, you can resort to building your own monorail out of Lego. One of the most workable designs that relies on fairly common parts is this one from Eurobricks: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77104. Alternatively, the only other commonly available monorails are the Rokenbok system and the Disney Monorails sets.

Mass Effect 3 Series 2 Action Figure Set Review

I purchased this set of figures last year because I'm a big fan of the ME series. The story BioWare has composed for the game series is one of the best, and probably my second favorite behind Metal Gear Solid.

These figures are beautiful looking and very realistic in comparison to the characters in the game. I've had a very hard time not taking them out of their packaging and I've managed not to yet. Because of this I can't comment on how they feel or what the back side of them looks like but every visible side of them looks great and the weapons look very nice also.

I would definitely recommend getting this set of figures and the Series 1 Set if you can and save them for years to come because they will definitely be worth something in the future!

McDermott 58in Star S22 Two-Piece Pool Cue Review

My wife and I each bought a cue to go with our brand new pool table. I chose this one because the construction materials were recommended by online buying guides and because, frankly, I liked the design. Upon opening it up you can tell this cue is excellent quality. It's extremely attractive and feels great when you play. That bit about control is actually true. I'm pretty sure my game has improved since I began using it. I'm also practicing quite a bit more but my shots are much steadier. I've used this one quite a bit since purchasing and there have been no issues with scratching. The tip is still in great shape. Overall, I rate this cue very highly. Sometimes, you really get what you pay for.
