Product Description

On April 1st, Hot Wheels sent a message to their Facebook fans saying that they were going to show a sneak peek of a new 2011 vehicle. The image shown was of Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet aka: an empty package. The response to the joke was so positive that fans asked for Hot Wheels to actually make it for real. So, just in time for DC Comics' 75th Anniversary, Hot Wheels presents Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet for San Diego Comic-Con. PLEASE NOTE: THE PACKAGE IS EMPTY!!

Hot Wheels SDCC 2010 Wonder Woman Invisible Jet Vehicle Review

Usually if you ordered a Hot Wheels vehicle online and it arrived through the mail and there was no vehicle in the packet, you'd be rather upset and be well within your rights to get a replacement or refund. However with Hot Wheels' Wonder Woman's invisible jet that's exactly what you get, but you know that going in. This apparently started of as a joke, collectors heard about it and Mattell realised there was a demand so released it. Being that it is something you obviously can't remove from the blister pack means the quality of the condition of the blister pack is going to be vitally important. It also means decades down the track it's going to be pretty hard to find one of these in mint condition as it is with any Hot Wheels car in blister pack. The mass market peg display design for the packaging doesn't help with this as with all vehicles a slight knock, displaying it where the sun gets to it or someone not handling it carefully means the card easily starts to bend or frays at the corners. That design does help with the joke, when people come to your house and say, hey there's nothing here but maybe it would have been better released at least as the shorter blister card style that some stores insist on for their Hot Wheels merchandise. Or even better in a plastic covered blister pack like Johnny Lightning does with the Dukes of Hazzard cars.

The empty blister pack does make for an interesting talking point but Hot Wheels could have actually produced an invisible jet die-cast vehicle if they had wanted to for the opener of blister pack collector. They have released an invisible car before called Invisible Phastasm as part of the Fright Cars release. That single car sells for around the same price as this on E-bay and elsewhere so may be more what you are after if you're just after an invisible die-cast car or something to represent the invisible man if you're into collecting unofficial movie themed cars. Other 1/64 die-cast vehicle companies have produced numerous invisible cars as well, The best in my opinion is the M2 Clearly Auto-Thentics brand by some company called Castline. Yeah I had never heard of them either before seeing them in a shop one day. Their release 2 Clearly Auto-Thentics contained the 1953 Oldsmobile (not on Amazon) is the one I like the best. The same company's invisible 1955 Pontiac Star Chief can be seen in the set following that link. As can an invisible Ford on this set's product page. These could be found in department stores that sold them in 2010 selling as individual cars for the same price as your mass produced Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars, although they are a bit more expensive online. They do however come in great same as the Dukes of Hazzard by Johnny Lightning packaging that you can see through the back of as well as the front.
