HPI Racing 106116 D8S 1/8 4WD RTR Nitro Buggy Review

I'll start off by saying the car I received appeared to have been sitting in the Amazon warehouse for a very long time, as the box was covered in dust, and all of alkaline batteries included with the car were DOA. That being said, I also received a car which had the fuel and pressure lines crossed, and I suspect the remaining stock Amazon has does as well, so be aware of that if you order this car. It literally took me 15 seconds to correct and I really don't think this deserves 1 star because of it- perhaps a deduction of 1 star. This is not a 1-star buggy, although I can certainly understand the frustration of my fellow reviewers.

This buggy is 100% ready to run- everything is included with the exception of nitro fuel. HPI includes a glo-starter, fuel bottle, multi-tool, radio, receiver, an excellent manual, an 1100mah 5-hump receiver battery with charger (which I wound up replacing with a higher capacity battery), 4 AA batteries for the radio, 1 C battery for the glo-starter and misc. spare parts. The glo-starter is cheap and bulky- I plan to replace it eventually, but it works fine. I didn't have any problems with the battery or charger connectors breaking.

That said, I love this buggy! After completing the recommended break-in procedure, I couldn't be happier. The buggy performs to my expectations, is pretty quick and has an excellent suspension. Build quality is very good, although it's apparent where HPI decided to save money in terms of using plastic parts instead of metal in a few critical areas- nothing that can't be easily upgraded. This is my first nitro buggy and I decided to get something I can grow into rather than starting with a lower quality, cheaper alternative, and I'm glad I went this route. This car is also highly upgradable since it's based on a "world champion" race buggy, which is another factor that influenced my decision.

If you're new to nitro cars, I highly recommend doing a lot of research before you buy as these cars require constant attention and maintenance and a little bit of knowledge about how nitro engines work, but this is a great and fun way to learn if you are so inclined. I've only run about a half gallon, but so far, I'm very happy with it.
